Help PC won't boot into windows

Ok I was just sitting at my desk playing cs:s and my pc froze, no big deal, I just turned off the psu and turned back on. I got the usual message "windows did not shut down properly...what do you want to do" so I just hit start windows normally like I always do but it rebooted. It just keeps doing it no matter if I select safe mode or last working set up. Sorta puzzled about this and I don't know what to do.

Sounds like some piece of hardware is failing. Could be the video card, even though it sounds like its working in text mode at least. When Windows tries to set its normal operating res the card could be failing. Could be memory too. I would resort to the old method: open the case and strip the system down to vid card, one stick of ram, and hard drive, then see if it will boot. If not move the ram to different slots. If you can't get it to boot in a stripped down config then it could be a motherboard or power supply problem.

I was messing around with my ram, putting one piece in, switching them, changing the slots that they are in and now I get no picture at all. I think it is the ram because my mobo gave the led code that the vga is detected, then it goes to cpu is detected, and then it flashes the code for start up but then goes back to detected cpu.

I am now able to get 1 stick of ram to start the bios and go into memtest, on the 5th test I got a whole bunch of errors and its not done yet. Is it now safe to say that my ram is the problem?

Yeah definately, I went through one pass on one stick and I got a total of 42 errors. I was just about to begin overclocking so now I can get some nice g skill ddr600s 🙂
