Help - PC Stopped Booting

I've got a PC that's been running fine for over a year that locked up when sittling idle and fails to boot or post.

Initially it made an odd digital noise when powering up - it was kind of like a beep sequence but wasn't the usual beep sound and was more of a low/high/low than short or long beeps (I'm sorta familiar with beeps and beep sequences and this sound wasn't like any beep I've ever heard). And after checking fans, reseating memory and video card, that sound no longer happens.

Also during one of many attempted power ups there was somewhat of an attempt to post that froze/locked up and it hasn't happened again (that is, I saw some "posty" stuff on the screen (that probably flies by normally) but it locked up).

Now it'll power up but there's no post, no beep at all, the fans are going, but there's absolutely no post or anything displaying on the screen.

(edit) I've swapped out the PSU and the problem persists.

Any ideas?

K9N Neo
AMD AM2 processor
1g RAM
A simple Asus video card that only has a heatsink, not a fan
Antec case and PSU

(a pretty simple build for my wife's work/surfing PC)

(another edit) I played aroudn with the RAM and managed to get it to boot but it locked up before it was usable. It seems like it is doing 3 beeps even though it's not the classic beep sound. That'd be a 64k failure.

So if that's the case, the question is, what's more likely to have failed after 15 months, the mobo or the RAM? 2 512's of Corsair value - seems unlikely that both failed. The mobo is hardly being strained so seems equally unlikely that it died but more likely than the RAM.

Man, I enjoy putting PCs together but I seriously hate troubleshooting them!

Thanks. That had a few ideas I hadn't tried - like trying to power up with no video card or RAM (which lead me to replace the mobo since I got no beeps complaining about that stuff).

The PC is back to running fine after replacing the motherboard.
