Help, overclocked too much, now I can't clear cmos! *Finally Fixed*

i have a tbird 1ghz on an asus a7v133

i set ram timings to 2-2-2, vcore 1.85, fsb 149. but it wouldn't post.
so i shorted the clear-cmos solder points, and the system turned on right away (fans spinning etc). but still no post. i took out the cmos battery for about 2 minutes, then put it back in...and still no post.

what could be wrong?

disconnect atx connector

short battery


if all else fails remove battery


this is to drain the capacitors on the board...........and hopefully when this is all done it will boot right

All you need to do is remove it for a few minutes.
 

i took out the battery, disconnected the atx connector, and left it for about 10 minutes. then i came back, put the battery back in, connected the atx connector....and still no post

i have another system, and i tested my cpu, ram, and videocard in the other system, and all work fine. is it possible that something happened to the battery connector? it looks fine to me.....
to take it out, i would push the little notch back and the battery would pop up. then i would just take it off. the battery isn't dead, because i've tested it too.

but it still won't post
any other ideas? maybe i did something wrong?

wait for about 2 hrs. that's happened to me several times when i was oc'ing my 1 ghz axia t-bird. if i waited long enough it would boot again.
 
Turn it off, press & hold the INSERT key on your keyboard while pressing the power on button,it should boot right up at default volts & fsb.

Sometimes it works sometime no but you should try that first.
 
You could also put your mobo in Jumper mode and manually set the FSB and Multiplier via the DIP Switches on the motherboard. That's what I had to do with my 850/A7V.
 
I had the same problem with my A7V133 and my AXIA 1.2 GHz Athlon. well, I gave up on it and just got a new mobo. I'll try to fire it up again tonight to see what happens...
 
well, i tried everything.
i took PlatinumGold's advice and left it for 2 hrs (with atx connector and battery taken out)
still didn't post

at this point i was pissing my pants....
so i disconnected everything, let it sit overnight....said a prayer this morning and fired her up. it posted! woohoo 🙂

Yes, praying, humming, chanting, cussing, and such can fix most computer related problems.
Tape and hammers also work well. 🙂

really, i never knew that,,, i thought all u had to do was pull the jumper when powered down!...

It depends on the motherboard, I've dealt with motherboards where all you have to do is short the jumper for a couple seconds, put it back, no other changes (left power connector on etc...), and it'll clear. Other times it won't clear like in this case, not sure what the difference is tho.

I guess it was the prayer and fully discharged mobo capacitors that helped.

I am glad all turned out well.

i know the feeling. i had an axia t-bird that i thought was shot. i came back 3 weeks later (after purchasing new cpu and everything) tried it again and voila. it worked.
