well heres the hardware n setup i have.

-Asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard
-radeon 9500 (softmodded to 9700)
-Athlon XP 2500 'barton' chip (clocked at stock. 166*11)(1.8ghz)
-Antec 480W Power Supply TRUE480
-two Seagate 160GB 7200rpm EIDE Barracuda hdd's.
-two CORSAIR MEMORY XMS 512MB 32MX8 PC-3200C2 W/ Platinum Heat Spreader
-koolance tower & CPU-200G heatsink
-two vantec tornado case fans (on a rheobus thank god)
..runs around 90F 31C usually.

now when i try to overclock it, say.. 200FSB and 11.0x, and tell asus to set the ram to 100% of the FSB and 'optimal'
ram runs at 200mhz dual mode.
but when i run 3dmark2001, or 3dmark2003, itll be in the first test, and just close, and be in windows.. or just reboot
i also tried keeping the CPU at 200*11 and changing the ram to 166, same problem. and having the bios adjust the memory timing itself, with the 'aggressive' and 'optimal' settings. still exits/reboots
yeah, as you can tell im new to overclocking. but thats what i setup this system for, and looking forward to it

thanks for the help

1.7 1.75 should be fine.

What Power Supply are you using? ??

also try relaxting the ram timings ... some nforce 2 boards dont like high ram timing ive had my system crash because of that same reason.

Before upping the Vcore up the Vdimm ( ram voltage ) to 2.8v - Perfectly safe BTW...

If you still have some instability then go to the Vcore, anything under 1.85 is safe. Although i tend to stick to about 1.8 as the max...

If you can't hit your target goal there, then most likely you hit the wall with that chip...

You probably have a shot at 2.3-2.4 ghz with that...

*Disable 8x agp
*lock agp bus at 66
*raise cpu v to 1.7

That worked for me on my a7n8x and am running 11x200 with the 2500 barton. If still no go, then increase the cpu voltage slightly.

You never did mention what revision of the mobo you have, if you don't have a 2.0, your chances of a 190+ are pretty slim. If you do have a 2.0, you may want to try one stick of ram at a time. Trying to run the large 512 sticks in dual channel makes it even more difficult to run properly, but seeing your trying for stock speeds, they should work either way, but you never know. I'd set your cpu voltage to 1.75 and put your ram to 2.7 and see what it does, if you get it stable, you can always bring it down until it gets unstable, and then go one back up. You should also try a multiplier of 10, 10.5 with 200fsb, since that chip should do 2ghz no prob, but might not go much higher, some chips won't.

well
i put it at 200fsb * 11.0
and upped my voltage to 1.70v
and it ran all the way through 3dmark2003
i got 4400~ by the way.. still runnin on it now
but i gotta test it more, see if its REALLY stable or not.
and also, i want to bump the memory timings around, or at least change the mb settings from optimal to aggressive.
when i did so at stock speeds. it improved my 3dmark2001 scores ~300 points or so i think it was.
also yeah i have 2.x bios with my board.. and will all the cooling i got, i might want to bump it up more

does anyone know what my ram is rated at, with timing, and voltage?

thanks again, youve all helped a ton
