Help overclock my 1.6A!

I finally got all the parts for my 1.6A RDRAM combo. I had the 1.6A on Asus's P4B266 but I wanted to try out Rambus. Here is the list.

Intel 1.6A
Asus P4T-E (ICS Chips)
2 x 256MB Samsung RDRAM 16 device

Now I remember reading I had to use the jumpers to obtain 133mhz FSB. I jumped the board and here is what I saw.

Intel 1.6ghz
RDRAM : 533Mhz

Uh...how is it that I pushed the FSB but the CPU speed didn't change?

I switched back to jumperless mode and tried 133mhz FSB from there. Computer booted up at 2138mhz and 533mhz RDRAM. I thought everything was in the clear

Too add a twist to things, I rebooted the computer to make sure everything was ok. My computer booted at 2138mhz and 532mhz RDRAM. WTF? Somethings screwy. Went back to jumper mode. Still booted at 1.6ghz and 532mhz RDRAM. WTF is going on? Anyone have any suggestions?

The bios is v.1005 so that's relatively new. Looks like the CPU is sitting at 29°C so I don't think it's the heat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does it say the same thing for proc speed/fsb if you try to view it through WCPUID or Sandra or some other non-bios way?

If your computer is running at 2138 (133 fsb) and your memory is set at 4X which is 533 mghz then I don't see what the problem is, please explain. What did you set the dipswitches to? The settings in the maual that came with your mobo or the settings in the P4T mobo manual which are the settings you should be using?

Ok, I haven't used WCPUID or Sandra.

My dip switch settings are for 16x multiplier and 133mhz FSB. Very odd when I use the dip switches it displays the CPU at 1.6Ghz but shows the memory running at 533mhz.

In jumperless mode, I set the FSB to 133mhz and the computer boots up at 2138mhz and 533mhz memory. After a reboot in jumperless mode, the CPU speed stayed at 2138mhz but now memory is at 532mhz.

I was told you HAD to use jumper mode to run 133mhz. For some reason in jumper mode it keeps the CPU at 1.6Ghz but runs the memory at 533mhz?

That is indeed very odd because mine does not do that. Maybe you got one those new 533 mghz mobos by mistake? I don't really know. Mine would not even post unless it was in jumper mode at 133 fsb. But don't kick a gift horse in the mouth if it runs stable, who cares how you got there.

Sounds like when you set the FSB via the jumper instead of BIOS the BIOS doesn't calculate the speed correctly. I'd download WCPUID and check what it says to reassure yourself. However, since your processer's multiplier is locked at 16, if you're running the FSB at 533 (~133x4), be assured that the CPU is running over 2.1Ghz (16x~133).

But yeah, that's weird jimmy...I can't think of why it wouldn't run in jumperless mode at the same speed it does when jumpered. Do you guys have the same mobo revision? (Maybe there's only one version but I'm too lazy to look)

Check for a newer bios. Also is the FSB on the board set to 133? Just asking cause I dunno if the memory has a seperate setting.

There is a 1006 bios but it is still in beta and does not add anything noteworthy. I am a big believer in if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The memory does have a separate setting, either 3X or 4X. But his board, since it has the ICS chips, works fine at 4X so no use dumbing it down so to speak.
