Help on the SAT and ACT please.

Danman

I'm a really good student, I have a weighted 3.8GPA and I am taking all Honors and AP classes. I am also taking Dual Enrollment classes at my community college next semester. I'm very depressed right now about my test scores. I was so happy yesterday because I read the ACT scores wrong and I thought I got a 26. I didn't. That was my average percentile. They are very bad, I don't even want to mention the score. My SAT scores are bad, but a little better than the ACT scores. It was the first time I took them, but this really drops me to a position where I'm scared and I don't know what to do.

I am a very smart kid, I only got one C in my life and that was in Geometry Honors. I got straight A's this year. I'm trying to go to UCF (University of Central Florida) with my girlfriend. We have been going out almost a year already. She told me if I had to go to my stupid fvcking community college we would probably have to set up a long distance relationship. I know from other people's experience that doesn't work. I can't even think of breaking up with her, it would just kill me.

I don't know what to do guys. I guess this proves I'm not the best test taker in the bunch. I am sending my college application in to UCF now. I have question guys, can I send in like a formal letter stating I am re-taking the SAT and ACT and I'm trying my best to get a better test grade? Thanks guys, I really only want serious replies. This is a serious post people.

Can you retake it and get the scores in before the application is due? Also, if your SAT scores are high enough for the college that you're applying to, I wouldn't worry about it.

UCF usually looks for 1080 on the SAT and 23 on the ACT.

I have a 1000 on the SAT and a 17 on the ACT.

But, when I take the test again, they are going to send them directly to UCF to show them. I am just praying that I can get in.

dont worry about it much. Your GPA is usually weighted more heavily than SAT/ACT's. Colleges know some people are just bad test takers. then theres me, I'm fvcking stupid, but i got 29 on the ACT and a 1300 on the SAT's, which is above average (maybe not around here :|). If you're an intelligent guy, the admissions boards will be able to tell 😀 Good luck and go huskies 😛

If all your other stuff is up to par, I bet you'll still get accepted despite your low SAT score.

just remember.... ACT and SAT scores aren't everything....... there are alot more to suceeding in life than those.....

Just take practice tests galore. Don't worry, I went from like a 1040 to a 1380. 😀 And I'm a bad student, w/ a 3.28 GPA in high school.

It's kind of hard not to worry. It's like a challenge between the test and me. Who's gonna win? FVCKING STUPID TEST! :|

Hey! I just got accepted to UCF! Hope to see you there. I've never met anyone from AT in real life.

I got in (fall term) with a 1320 SAT, 28 ACT, and about 3.7 weighted GPA, but I know a guy that got in with <1000 SAT and a really good GPA (4.1).
Even if you don't get accepted right away, if you are applying right now, they will probably waitlist you. (You can retake tests and send in better scores; you will probably get in if you improve since everyone that gets accepted won't go to UCF)

Good luck.

Does UCF have an essay? If so, that's the most important thing on your application, moreso than SAT or GPA or rank. You're essay needs to be good. email me if you need anything, the college application process ended for me last year and now im a frosh at duke, so i know how it feels. ga14@duke.edu

I don't kno what to tell you about the tests, but I want to give you this one piece of advice:

I know you care about this girl, but DO NOT let a relationship influence where you go to school. Do what's going to be best for you. If in this case, UCF IS the best option, then best of luck to you. 😀

I'd suggest going to UCF whether you're with the girl or not. SCC is crap. (If thats the community college you were talking about)

He's right, the essay is weighted extremely heavily. Whatever you do, don't sound like a stuck up bi@tch in the essay. If you have one of those free write questions, I would write about something that shaped your character. Make it sad and moving and you are off to college. Of course, if nothing sad has ever happened in your life, then you might have to edit the truth a little...

No, it's Brevard Community College.

Umm...did you study for the SAT/ACT tests? If not, you better get your butt in gear. Stanley Kaplan had a good course way back when I took it. If you can't afford it, at least get a prep book or check web sources. Remember to take practice tests under actual test conditions (timed, no interruptions, at a desk). Based on your grades, you should have done a lot better than you did.

Hmm...looks like you won't be able to retake the SAT in time since you missed the "late" registration date for December's test.
Link

But you can still make the ACT registration deadline TOMORROW! link for the test on December 14.

I'm assuming that you're a senior. If you're a junior just retake the tests next year.

BTW, choosing your college on the basis of where your g/f is going, is at best, short-sighted. No matter how much you love her right now, she is going to change and you are going to change, and odds are pretty good that neither of you are going like all the changes in the other.

how do you manage to make A's all your life and then end up with a 1000 and 17 on act? I mean, you didn't take low level classes to get the good grades did you?

The SAT and ACT are all about knowing HOW to take the test. You need to take a bunch of practice test from the 10 Real SAT book and learn the types of questions and the tricks they use on the test. For the math section, you need to memorize a few key methods and formulas (sorry its been 4 years since I took them so I've forgotten the specifics). For the verbal section, notice the different way they try to trick you (this is common in the vocab section). Just keep taking practice tests, going over the answers and notice the patterns and so on. Good luck!

tk149,

I am already registered for both of those tests on December 7th and December 14th. When I saw these scores, I flipped and re-registered that minute.

Uh, no. I took Pre-Calc Honors, AP Language, AP World History, Physics Honors last year for my Junior year. I got all A's and B's in those classes. I currently taking AP Literature, Yearbook, and 3 computer electives this semester. Next semester I'm taking Dual Enrollment and taking College Algebra, Speech and Debate, and Humanities. I don't think I'm stupid, I'm ranked number 37 out of 400+ Seniors.

That's exactly what I would have done. Anyways, study hard! Make sure the testing agencies can send your new scores to your chosen colleges in time to meet their application deadlines. Just emember, you obviously have the intelligence and skills to ace those tests, just don't get nervous.

Good luck!
