help on photoshop 7.0

i've just gotten photoshop but this is the second time that i use it. i have about 80 bitmaps (from scanner) that i want to convert to jpeg. how do i do that?

or is there a better way to convert them?
thanks

You can use "save as". Open up your bmp file, choose "save as". There is a drop-down menu that will allow you to choose from many file types. You can also use file converter from ACDsee. But then again, I guess that means you have to have ACDsee.

File>Save for Web is a little better than the regular Save As

But if you mean if you can convert all the bmps at once with Photoshop, I don't think you can... gotta do them one at a time or use some other program

Create an action and automate the process. Those 80 bitmaps will go by like a flash 🙂 PM me if you need help creating one.

The advantage of going with the save for web option that Elitebull speaks of is that you have the option of lowering filesizes through image ready without any noticeable loss of quality. Jpg files can be set to high. 60% image compression is pretty good, anything higher is indistinguishable form uncompressed. Give it a try. It can reduce your files alot. Just fiddle with the settings on the top right. Use the dual picture option so that you can compare the original with the compressed.

How do you automate things like this. I've tried it before with little success - a quick and easy guide would be useful.

under window menu, select [actions]. or click on tha actions tab.
click on create new action icon. or click on that right arrow at the top right corner and select new action.
name it whatever you can easily remember.
-notice here you can set a function key to start off this action.
click on record.
do what ever you want.
in your case save as jpeg.
and once you are done,
click on the square... or the stop button next to the record button.

do a google on photoshop action howto.
you'll get some graphical help

hi:
there's seems to be something i did wrong as no bitmaps are converted to jepgs...

here's what i did:
1) create new action and start recording
2) i go to "open", open a bitmap in a folder
3) then i choose "save as", i choose "save for web" then click "save"
4) the jpeg is there now. i close the bitmap and then stop teh recording action

then i go to automate, batch, choose the action, find the source folder, then choose destination as "save and close" ( i also tried "folder" and chose a new folder

then i only see the bitmaps being saved, but not as jpegs

please help.

thank you
