Help on music piece

I picked up a new piece to play for the piano and from the start I'm already stumped.

The Treble clef has 1 quarter note + 5 (1/16th) notes. Thats 1/16 note more then the 2/4 time measure. The bass clef makes sense with the quater note + 4 (1/16th) notes. How do you even play this if it breaks that time measure.😕

I honestly have no fvcking clue what 's going on there, but personally, I'd just ignore the tied 1/16th and just play the quarter + 4 1/16th's (just play it as it's written in bass clef)

I assume it's a misprint.

that's the only way that makes sense. I was like :Q how can a piece break the rules of music, it can't, it can't!

It was a partial misprint. I looked at another arrangement/transcription of the piece and those 5 1/6th notes were considered a group triplet of 5. Rare... wow since I only see triplet is group of 3's typically. :Q

It's one of those complex rhythm things, 5 in the treble, 4 in the bass. Each full beat gets divided into however many notes there are.

It's called a polyrythm and yes, it's played as 5 notes per quarter note, a bit difficult but not if you get the feel for it.

Best way to practice is by playing to a metronome at 80 bpm and cramming 5 notes between each quarter note until it's second nature.
