Some of you may have seen my post below about my experiences with the MSI kt266 board. Anyway, I'm trying to flash an updated BIOS to the thing in hopes that it will help to fix some of my problems. The thing is, the BIOS wont flash. I downlaoded the updated version, and ran the instalation. A dos screen came up that said "AMIBOIS 1.4", then "VGA" then "7F". Right after the 7F, the window crashes and goes away. failed install.

Anyone know what's going wrong?

i'm not familiar with that board, but i'm wary of bios flashes through windows. i usually go with a dos boot disk and run the update utility.

one thing you should check though, is that is some bios'es there is a setting within the bios or sometimes a jumper on the mobo (usually older mobo's which doesn't look like it's the case here) which needs to be changed in order to flash the bios.

if the setting is not "enabled" or if the jumper is not moved then the flash will fail. i would suspect that something like this is going on. with a truly bad bios flash, you probably wouldn't be getting back into windoze.

Are you sure that you are following the directions to the "t". Bios flashes are tricky. Be sure that you are on a UPS because if the power flickers at your house during the process, huge problem!!!! Go to the mobo site. Re-download the update. Be sure that it is specifically for your board. Read the directions again. It should have you do this through DOS, not windows (like the previous person suspected).

Thanks, I tried it with a boot disk and it worked. Of course, now my mem scores are lower. I'm sending this freakin board back.
