Hi Mark, thanx for joning!! 😀

You've gotto make sure you've got the latest java installed on you're pc www.java.com

When you install the client, there's a option to join a group and that would be Anandtech 😉

Done & working 🙂
Odd that Sygate hasn't picked it up yet:roll:😕

Btw I've just checked Taskinfo ,for the most part SETI is getting about 80% CPU time & Dimes is getting about 17%.
Is this normal? ,I know its not a huge amount to Dimes but it was more than I expected.

Btw(2) why do the points move when you hold your mouse over them?

It's about three times more than it is using on my main machine crunching 2 instances of Find a drug.

Yea nm I just realised why 😱

It only uses that amount when the window is open ,with it closed its only occasionally showing 0.78% 🙂

A big  to Woodie for our DIMES TeAm is now known as:

TeAm AnandTech

Dang it, I just tried to update my java to the latest version and I've run into all kinds of trouble. Now DIMES won't work because I don't have java running.

Error 1722

I've tried all the recommended things but no joy. Anyone else run into this?

Guys:

A bit of a change...I've renamed the team from "Anandtech" to "TeAm AnandTech", to be more in keeping with our other DC teams/projects.

Stats can now be found here

Well no, not exactly that. But on one of my comps - even without running Dimes - I had a similar error. I had to completly remove the java-installation (also manually removed all references to java*.exe from the registry) and then I had to reinstall the latest version from scratch. But I assume you have done that already, and also given the comp a reboot, etc.

I didn't go through the registry but I guess I'll give that a try. The bad thing is that I had DIMES running and then accepted the offer to update my java program. That's when all the trouble started.

I have since installed it on a similar machine except I upgraded java first and then installed DIMES. I wonder if I uninstall DIMES and JAVA and start over doing JAVA first?

I hate this because it is my primary work computer with all the "important" stuff on it.

Whew, at least I can post again.

After removing all instances of "java" from my registry (which still didn't allow me to install java without the 1722 error) I then found I was unable to post to the AT forums. The java applet was removed when I cleaned the registry.

I decided to reinstall windows via the repair route, now no telling what is not going to work. 🙁

BTW, I just tried once again to install java and got the same dang 1722 error.

I give up for now ... supper time. 😉

Thanks for the links,

I'm very tired from working around the back yard and pool area today. Think I'll relax and watch a little TV and try to fix this problem later.

I'll post if I have any luck.

i thought it took almost no resources when i was watching task manager. then i was playing the COD2 demo and noticed a bit of jumpiness, nothing major. when i was done i realized i had left dimes on.

so out of curiousity, i ran a 3dmark and found my sore was ~25% lower.

I tried the advice about doing the custom install and renamed the installed directory ... it seems to have worked.

I had to reinstall AVG ... that got screwed up.

I just reinstalled DIMES and it appears to be working.

Thanks for the assist, mrwizer. :wine:

woah, thats strange. And you've changed nothing sense yoru last 3dmark run except adding DIMES?

I dont' understand how it could do that while using <1% CPU resources, unless it is using a decent amount of ram. I see javaw.exe (which I assume is DIMES because I dont' see a dimes listing) taking up 40mb of ram, so if you've only got 512 that could be enough to make it start jumping and skipping. This is worth looking into further ..

please do. i'll run it again in the morning too. i can only stand to run that so many times a day 😛

I just did a quick, unscientific comparison. I had a bunch of my normal apps running in the background, but I turned off seti and Trillian (aim client).

3dmark 05 scores
Without DIMES: 5036
With DIMES: 5041

I ran it without DIMES first, so taht run wasn't cached, but even with the caching I should have had scores that were further appart. Did you have DIMES open or minimized when you ran 3dmark?
