Help on Dimes

Well if some selfish people on the team didn't chase away the RA, (just cause they would have been passed and was only thinking about themselves and not the team) we would actually be getting somewhere... :|

I'm very nicely asking the RA to reconsider and return to the TeAm where they belong. If anybody's got a problem with the RA crunching for AnandTech, you know how to pm me.. I really didn't expect this kind of behavior for people on AnandTech.

I totally agree with Johan on this one!

I can't believe some INDIVIDUALS didn't feel good because they got passed by the RA, which was helping the TEAM cause!!

I don't know who these INDIVIDUALS were, but probably they aren't made for a TEAM like TEAM Anandtech.

After all, it's called TEAM Anandtech, not INDIVIDUALS Anandtech

I second Johans opinion and join my voice to his: Please reconsider and return, RA.

Have joined ...

Yeah, welcome to the TeAm guys!! Great having with us! 😀

And thanx for the post Dwight! Hope we can get a few more teammates on this great project! 😉

Damn. Hate to see RA missing from us too. Dont know what happened in my absence. sorry there were differences. Good luck and remember you always have a home here. On any project. Teammate...

I hope you'll come back somepoint. Sooner the better 😉 .

I'm crunching with my main rig. Once I get some free time I'll install dimes on my brothers computer as well.

thanks Mike, i didn't think they were the same but i didn't see dimes on the stickied DC thread.

i'll put a machine on tomorrow after it finishes its wu.

is all this stuff right in front of me and i can't see it?

This is a cool little project. It makes the machines more economical, two projects at once!

I just added another two machines. 🙂

Any idea on exactly how much traffic this uses? Wolfraider, I heard you mention 2% of your DSL... but anyone have any actual data numbers? I am trying to figure out how much bandwidth it uses to determine the maximum number of machines that can go on one connection before it is noticeable. Thanks.

I have it running on 4 here, can't give you number but it doesn't slow me down a bit.

I get 6504 down and 356 up and that hasn't changed while running this.

I remember reading something abou that on the DIMES forums. IIRC, they said something about 1kb per client per minute(?) adding up to about 30 MB a month.

Just look it up on the DIMES forums.

🙂

According to the Dimes home page Dimes consumes about " consuming at peak 1KB/S" for each client. The peak is about 2 - 3 seconds per minute, my firewall reports also some 15 seconds activity when a measurment is done, with just below 1 KB/S. So it should not med too much bandwidth for a client or two.
I run it on two machines. The home page says: What we ask is not so much your CPU or bandwidth (which we hardly consume), but rather, your location. The more places we'll have presence in, the more accurate our maps will be. To me it seems that a large number of clients (more than 4 or 5) at any location does not make much sense. Is that true or should I start more clients? OK, I could collect points, but does that really help the project? :Q

i'm such a rookie when it comes to these dc projects. i didn't realize this is only a network project and thought it would interfere with f@h, lol.

i put a couple other machines on now that i understand a little more 😛 so 3 on but will be down to 2 in a few days.

edit, good point petr. i'd like to know that as well.
