I have a pIII500 and I want to update it. I am trying to decide how much should I sell it to buy a coppermine, 100mhz pIII-600 or higher.
However when I look at the prices from pricewatch, I found out that there is a nonsense pricing:

PIII500 ,slot1,100mhz,512k ->$143+$10.95 @econopc
PIII550 ,slot1,100mhz,512k ->$128+$10.95 @econopc
pIII600 ,slot1,100mhz,512k ->$132+$10.95 @accubyte
pIII600e,slot1,100mhz,256k ->$113+$10.95 @econopc

Could someone explain me why pIII500 is the most expensive one??

I'm gonna take a gander and say that other than the larger 512K cache (making that a server-focussed model) and maybe supply/demand, it could be that particular PIII 500 is actually a Xeon III 500 (slot 2 and not a regular PIII, slot 1). I only base that on the estimated current prices of the slower speed Xeons (you could check on pricewatch to confirm).... and I think the Xeon IIIs (the cumine-based Xeons rather than Deschutes core) started at ~450 Mhz too... (I have a pair of Xeon II 400 1Mbs myself).

I don't think you are comparing this right..

PIII500 ,slot1,100mhz,512k ->$143+$10.95 @econopc
PIII550 ,slot1,100mhz,512k ->$128+$10.95 @econopc<---should be accubyte
pIII600 ,slot1,100mhz,512k ->$132+$10.95 @accubyte
pIII600e,slot1,100mhz,256k ->$113+$10.95 @econopc

Goto the accubyte website, they list the PIII500,550,&600 as "Katmai" Processors, which they want $149.99 for any one.

Katmai is a morre expencive processor and Econopc is prob selling the 500 katmai and the others are regular PIIIs

I don't think they made a Katmai PIII 500, but I may be wrong. I know they made a Katmai PIII 450 (which I have in the machine I'm on right now), but then shortly thereafter released the coppermine PIII 450s... And as far as I know, it has been coppermine ever since up until the P4...
