Help on building a computer

I need a new computer that will last me about 3 years. I want it to last me through without really having to upgrade much. After that i have college and then i'll get me a labtop. Any one have any ideas what i should get?

Need
monitor
mobo
cpu(dual core)
graphic card
sound
2x1gig ram
hardrive about 250
burner

uuhhhhh what ya goonnna do with the comp....workstation? gaming? entertainment...? overclocking?

these are the important questions that us need to know 😕

Monitor - whichever your prefer, I care very little about monitors and am not about to try to recommend one
Mainboard - MSI Neo4 Platinum [~$120]
CPU - Athlon64 X2 3800+ or Opteron 165, overclocked [~$300]
Graphics - 7800 GT [~$300]
Sound - X-Fi Platinum [~$200]
RAM - Whichever your prefer, get CL2 on your 1 GB modules if you can afford it [~$200]
HDD - any name-brand 300 GB SATA model [~$150]
Burner - NEC 16X DVD burner (whatever the current model is) [~$50]

...so that's ~$1320 for the system build, which leaves you $700 to apply to the monitor, or you can get a cheaper monitor and upgrade some of the other components (like step up to a 7800 GTX video card, or get a second 300 GB disk, or an X-Fi Elite Pro, or whatever), or you could just pocket the cash that you don't use, your call.

i've got some ideas of my own (i wanted to know what some one would do in my case and i'm picking up some of the same stuff) and mobo's i'm so confused on. People advise different ones so i want a good stable mobo that i an oc later on. Any on that read this no much about a crt moniter they liked. I'm no a lcd fan at all.

The most common recommendations are in this area are:

DFI - Best for overclocking in general, fairly stable but sometimes confusing/difficult for new users

MSI - Good stability and performance, a lot of nice features, and good overclocking support as well

Epox - Usually good stability though some users have problems with it, and about the same overclocking support as MSI

...and from all manufacturers, you're interested in the nforce4-based boards for your purposes, and not the "value" series on your budget. It pays to get a decent mainboard, and it *does not* pay to get *any* SLI board, so keep that in mind.
