Help on allocation of deposit refund from apartment

We received a $100 refund of our deposit after all fees. There was a $40 carpet cleaning fee assessed in the roommate's bedroom (don't ask, cuz I don't know either). Without the $40 cleaning fee, we would have gotten $140 back and each person would be getting $70. So from the $100 we did get back, I take $70 and he takes $30, correct?

Is it really that simple or am I missing something here?
 
Seems reasonable to me, unless you were the one who peed on his carpet.

? yeah... if that fee was assessed for only his room then he should be the one to pay it. There is no causal beneficial relationship between the fee and the rest of the apt. so you can only allocate it to his dirty carpet..
