Help on AIM File Transfer

ok... ive tried messing with the ports on my router but i got nowhere..
Anyways, my question is: is there a way for file transfer to work between 2 computers both behind firewalls? If so, what do I have to do? Ive tried messing with the router for while and dont know if im doing it right or not. I have a linksys router befsr41 with a latest firm if anybody can walk me through it. Thanks

Open your manual, look up port forwarding. (i have BEFSRU31 LinkSys router) Once you find it, you need to forward a port for AIM. lets say 495 (dont matter just pick one 😉 ) Ok then forward the port 495~495 and IP to whichever your IP is(192.168.1.x) And save and continue. close out your router config, go to AIM and under connection put the port number you chose. Set this port number and your done. I open about 4 ports so i can send/receive files on AIM/ICQ/MSN/etc etc...

I have the same problem... when you say under connection, do you mean the port that you use to connect to the aim servers?

I tried this with my linksys router and it did not work. I set port forwarding on port 4443 and setup aim to connect on port 4443. I direct connect to someone and it times out.... any suggestions?

Within the AIM options, set the file transfer port to 80.

No, it is better to set it to 5190 because that is their default port for those things. Keep in mind both firewalls need to be set up to let that connection through!

So what you do is.... Set the connection to connect to the aim server using port 5190, set router to forward 5190 to my ip, and itll work? I tried that with port 4443 and nothing happend.... so I wonder why 5190 is any different
