i read the guide at the top of the category page and used it to get this far....
i have an a64 3000+ winchester 1.8GHz stock
i currently have 9x223 for 2GHz
if i go to 9x224 when booting it says 1764MHz
so i tried 8x251 which should also make 2GHz and i got the same 1764MHz
i tried raising the vcore from 1.5 to the next step up (1.525 i think) and got the same results
i'm aiming for 2.2GHz with stock cooling
what am i doing wrong?

It sounds like you have Cool n' Quite enabled in bios. If so your CPU is throttling down, disable it in bios.

And like the guide says, use a memory divider to eliminate your ram as a possible road block. See how far you can push it on stock vcore using Prime95 or SuperPI to test stability. Once you start getting errors up the vcore and push it farther. etc.. etc...

disabled cool n' quiet
whenever i change my ram timings, it wont boot or post or anything...just get beep codes
before i update my bios, will it revert to the ones installed on the board if i clear my cmos?

run a lower ram multiplier, you might be pushin your ram too far, my board does the same thing If I push too far, It will boot to bios real slow and back down everything until I change the culprit value back

where are all these memory settings such as multiplier and divider...."dram setup" only has timings and such
(this is my first oc)

I'm not familar with your board, but it should be under CPU/Mem settings and be something like "max mem clock" or "mem clock", "mem freq"

The settings should be 200,166,133,100 or DDR400,DDR333,DDR266,DDR200, or something along those lines

the lower the # the lower your Ram will be

memclock index value? its set to 200MHz max
i lowered it to 166 and my computer wouldnt boot
theres some options in the chipset menu that might possibly be relevant: "HT frequency" 1x thru 5x and auto, "HT width" down 16/up16, down8/up8, down16/up8, down8/up 16

Should have the HTT set to 4x right now.....

have you falshed the bios yet???

MOst are not familiar with that board, so you may not get a lot of help when asking for bios settings...each board may differ greatly on this....

I don't intend to be rude but if you cant figure out any of this after reading an overclocking guide then I don't know that you should be overclocking.

This means that your system doesn't like the overclock settings. Something you have set is too aggressive for it. When this happens the motherboard will revert to much lower settings so that it can POST and allow you to enter BIOS to tweak it.

The first thing you need to verify (as Duvie already mentioned) is that HT Frequency is set to 4x. I didn't see you post that you've done that yet. 5x is default. Use 4x for FSB speeds of 201-250. Lower it to 3x when you want to set FSB speeds higher than 250. The point is to keep your HT as close to 1000MHz as possible (a product of HT Frequency * FSB).

You already raised Vcore so the CPU has more than enough voltage to pass this speed.

If, after you set HT Frequency to 4x you continue to have problems, then please post all of the overclocking settings currently in your BIOS. That will make it much easier for us to help you troubleshoot this.

i set my ht freq. to 4x and raised the cpu freq. to 250 (exactly 1000) and got the same result of reverting to the default overall frequency
trying to find the app to flash new bios (im starting to hate this motherboard)
