What's the voltage capped at in Afterburner? How high does it get your card before it craps out?

I have a His IceQ 7870 being delivered today :)

Mines going into a Lian Li PC-04b rig so I'm not going for any crazy overclocking unless the cooler is as good as reviewers say.

Didn't do much research yet on overclocking 7870's. Thought I did see a 1.3v limit tho?

How high does your card get at current voltage?

1200/1475

That's a pretty solid overclock, but you might have more potential on the core. The memory probably won't go any higher - there's no voltage adjustment for it.

Here are some sample overclocks from TechPowerUp: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7870_PCS_Plus_Vortex_II/30.html

They got these with default voltage, though, which tells me that you might just have a chip with less headroom - you're already pumping a lot of voltage through it to get to 1200.

Did you try finding the maximum overclock at stock voltage? That might tell you where on the spectrum your chip falls.

If you can't go over 1100 at stock, you have a below-average chip. That's just luck of the draw. You've already exceeded that significantly with more voltage, so that's probably all you're going to see. Voltage can't make a below-average chip into an above-average overclocker, and anyone you see posting a 1300 core speed has a very above-average chip.
