I plan on reformatting my c: drive tonight or tomorrow. I was originally planning on reinstalling with win98 again. However, I'm getting sick of win98 being so unstable. Here are my concerns that I need to find solutions for if I'm going to make the jump:

1. Will my burner programs still work? (Nero 5.0.3.1 and CloneCD 2.7.8.1) I've heard that people have had problems with these two.

2. How complicated is it? I've never used NT or 2k so I have no idea what they are like although I'm interested to try them out.

3. I don't want to dual boot with 98 so it is all or nothing. Could this be a problem?

4. I have a personal edition of Norton Ghost 2000. Will this work in 2k?

5. Is there any updates I should dl for win2k if I install it?

2. You'll be fine. Its got stuff like services which are a bit different, but quite easy to get the hang of.

3. Hasn't been for me.

5. Service Pack 1, and all the latest updates on the Windows Update.

Sorry I can't help with the other questions.

Nero and clonecd will work fine. Just be sure to install the ASPI layer first, as win2k does not come with it. If you email me I can send you a copy and save you from having to look. I'm not sure about ghost, as I use newer version. It may not work from within win2k, because win2k is very protective about its files (unlike win98). Meaning that files cant be ghosted that are currently is use. You can howver use a win98 boot up disk and use norton from the dos prompt, but only if your file system is fat32. you're best bet is to check the syamntec website for more info on that.

The problem with nero was with versions before 4.0.8.3.

Because "the driver within this Nero Releases cause that Windows 2000
does not boot anymore". Hehe, I learned that one the hard way :Q

You'll be fine with your version though.

Are you guys running Nero/other burners as Admin or as normal users? BTW, the "Run As..." service is too good to be true.

Officially, you'll need Ghost 2001 for use in 2K. But I'd give it a try, anyway.

What will the ASPI layer do? I'm probably going to upgrade to the newest version of clone and it did away with an aspi mode so maybe it doesn't need it.

I think ASPI layer lets the program talk to the cd drive or something--I installed nero 5 on Win 2k but I didn't have to worry about ASPI or anything--just installed the program and it works.
