This will be one of the dumbest/strangest situations you might read about. I currently was putting my cpu together(first custom one) and i went to take the thermal compound off and put on some arctic silver 5 on...when i was taking it off the chipset i was rubbing it off and some of the liquid stuff i was using to remove it went on the chip itself...and on the backside...now for the past 30 minutes ive been sitting here doing everything to dry it off...everything from holding it near a fan and also from blowing on it myself....now my question is...im praying to god that this thing isnt effed up...i have not supplied ANY power to it yet.....im wanting to wait maybe 4 days atleast to let it dry off...is my chip set effed up? im hoping to god with everthing i put on it that it wont be messed up!! someone help me out here

omg ! dont do that again !

sit it on the back of a running tv , on the vents where you can feel the heat raising, leave it overnight to dry properly . Theres a real good chance its fine and just NEEDS to be totally dry.
l have never done that to a pc chip of any type , but , ;l have crashed a radio control chopper into a LAKE ! The gyro went all gibble garbbed , and it took 3 days on the back of the loung tv to dry it. Then it worked fine .......l still use this gyro.....12 months later...

GOOD LUCK !

Follow Piddlefoots advice and for the future try using either the Artic Cleaning stuff or ISpobylastic (horrible spelling) Alcohol to clean up any Electronics. You might not notice it now but their is a chance that minor corrision has already started and will now only get worse.

weasel...you mentioned alcohol products im guessing...anyhow...i used goo off...which helps me clean it off alot...and as soon as this stuff hit the chip...i began to dry it off as quickly as possible...right now i can see a little bit on there...but in all aspects you guys think it will work? right now i have the fan on full blast with the chip right in front of it..gonna be at work from 4-midnight so that should be plenty of time to dry off till this weekend

2 weeks ago I droped my Ipaq 4700 on the water, when I jump to rescue him I accidentaly turn him on. He died that day. Now I'm $500 poor, 'cause that's what a new Ipaq 4700 cost to me. So my advice to you is... don't turn your system on until you are certain that is dried. Wait at least until tomorrow... and GOOD LUCK.

I wonder if the two last posters are really a multi-nicking troll.
Re-read that crap if you can even believe it.

What "liquid stuff"? I would want to know what you were using before I gave advice. If it was just alcohol, don't worry, alcohol evaporates quickly at room temperature anyway. Odds are it's gone already. If it wasn't, well, what was it?

I used Goo Gone....it gets off grime and stuff..im thinking its alcohol? but i left a fan on it for about 8 hours to let it dry out..and theres like a ''TEENY WEENY'' bit of stuff left but doesnt seem like it will harm anything

theres like 20 different types of goo gone but most are NOT water based, and an overnight dry should do the trick, l recon it ll work fine if its dry.

Seriously...I used turpentine (aka paint thinner) to clean off the cpu once...no problems and it's still running in my computer as we speak ;)
