I had a ESS Solo-1 sound chip (onboard) on my computer and now it won't work. It cannot detect the chip anymore. I did not do anything to the Bios, or any jumpers on my motherboard (Actually, the jumper on my motherboard says it's enabled), The little speaker that is in the taskman now does not load up and the drivers do not show up in the device manager. I've tried reinstalling them, but with no sucess. The thing is that the computer can't detect the onboard sound chip. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I want SOUND!!!!!

Well if you have made no changes its possible the lil sound chip has bit the dust... however I would do the easy stuff first, like shutting down, unplug the power supply for a few minutes and then doing a cold reboot, and of course scandisk and defrag ..

Try a new sound card, almost anything will be better than the ESS chip, something basic like the SB16 will give you more features and is cheap.
