My SK-7 came in today, and just now I installed it.
1) remove CPU, make sure it'll fit.
2) remove and apply compound to the CPU (Arctic Ceramiqu is easier to apply than AS...and easier than the cheap stuff!)
3) Install HSF. One 3/8" flathead screwdriver did the trick, no CRUNCH of a cracked core.
4) Hook up drives and fans again. Put Enermax adjustable 92mm fan on the mobo's CPU fan connector, and at max for now (so no RPM alarm)
5) boot up.
Fans start up, CDROM lights up, and that's it. It will turn off normally...that is, after four seconds of holding power. However, there are no beeps and no video. I've tried reseeating the video card and memory. Nothing. Cleared CMOS...nothing. No bad smell near the CPU (smells like dust 🙂...no burnt electronics smell)...What can I do?!
AK35GT2 is the mobo, if you don't want to go looking.

Sorry for the pic being blurred, but I'm too nervous to hold my hands still!
I have tried plugging the previous cooling fan into the CPU fan connector, just to be sure it isn't a low RPM issue.
Edit 2: I took the cooler off, re-applied the goop and all, installed it again...I'm now in the BIOS.
WHat happened? I don't know. But it's working now, and will have to prove it's companionship again...with some Prime95 and DivX movies 🙂
Edit: Now watching Transformers: The Movie and crunching some numbers 😀
Iidle temp is 5ºC lower than usual, and I doubt it has hit a stable load temp at this point.
