Hey guys,

I have an AMD 2500 barton with an MSI K7N2G series Ultra 400. With an MSI Radeon 9800Pro, and 512 of Corsair value select ram. Antec case and 300W antec PSU. 250 gig maxtor HDD (new). And i don't get any thing when i try to turn it on. This is my first time, and i read mobo manual as i was putting it all together, so i'm fairly certain everything is plugged up correctly. When i plug in the power cable and hit the power button it doesn't do anything, so i messed with the PSU switches on the back and it still won't boot. Could my mobo be fried or something??? IDK please help

If everything is really plugged in properly, then it's a possibility that your PSU has burnt out.

Hopefully, you didn't toggle the switch on your PSU to change between North American/European power standards...

Just a few things to check.

1. The power supply is connected to the motherboard (should be a big ATX power connector).
2. The voltage switch is set properly on the back of the power supply (usually it will be 110 V).
3. The power switch is set to "ON" on the back of the power supply.
4. The connector for the case's power button is connected to the motherboard correctly (try different orientations to see if you plugged it in upside down).

Yeah, the case power button can only function through that connection to the motherboard. If the connection's not correctly set up, the button is worthless.

Try removing the motherboard from the case and sitting it on a piece of cardboard. You should only have the CPU, RAM, video card and keyboard installed.

yea i just did that before you typed but it seems that my mobo is fried cuz like when i plug the power switch cord onto the mobo pin and hit the power button it still doesn't do anything. So i guess i just got to buy a new mobo. How could the mobo be dead b 4 i even put into a computer?? I don't think the seller sold me a burnt out mobo.

1) Is the motherboard mounted on standoffs ( yes = :) )

2) Is the ATX12V cable plugged into the motherboard ( yes = :), I'm assuming it does have a receptacle for one? )

3) Scrutinize the diagram in the manual that shows where the ATX Power Button plug is supposed to go. Double-check your placement of it.

4) If that's not getting you anywhere, take the mobo out of the case and test it laying on cardboard (the mobo, not you :D) with just the bare essentials. No drives, no case wiring other than the Power SW wire.

I have done all that, and yes i do have the ATX 12V cable pluged in

I have taken the computer out of the case and put it all back together with it laying on top of cardoard and plugged the power SW in and it still does nothing.

The only thing i noticed was a noise comeing from the power supply..........it goes "click" like it's powering up when i flip the power switch, on the back of it, and then when i flip it off it makes like this wierd wine getting lower and lower in pitch

Hopefully you can understand what i'm trying to explain haha

possibly the power supply not giving the "power good" signal to the board to begin booting, the noises your hearing could mean anything, but generally, any noise other than a half silent whiiirrr of a fan is bad from a PSU.... try another one

If you have tried all the above suggestions, it could be your motherboard. I have never had any luck with MSI motherboards in 4+ years. If possible, try a new motherboard.
