help, new pc locks up playing COD2,

ok so my new pc seems to be running alright...
passes 3dmark, prime running again now, 1st passed the short test.

heres the pc
operton 170
asus a8n preimum
pqi 2x1gig mem
western digital 500yr
creatige augiy2 zs gamer
evga 7800gt w/zalman v700 copper (talk about cool, my old agp 6800gt with stock sink was ruing 50+C at idle, this is ruing 40+
enermax psu 500watts (replaced the antec neo he that does not like asus boards)


i loaded up c0d2, played for like 3 mins, with eax2.. sound got all crackly and game locked.

rebooted tired with eax3, game locked up even quicker.

rebooted tried with cod software driver.
was able to play about 20~30 mins (enough to beat a level)
locked up

every lock up was with the sound going bad...
i know i should pull the sound card, and try with on-board. but i really would like this card to work... hate onboard sound.

btw game looks great.. and fun to play.

but help!!!

installed the windows xp fix, and amd x2 drivers.

set afintiy to cpu - (after that game played longer ~30 mins), should i try 1?

try the newest or beta sound card drivers, that is what i would do.

i know betacreative are bad, tried that, wow took pc 10 mins to boot, will try newest, used what was with cd.

the other drivers (video/motherboard, are newest non-beta from nvidia)

seems like the newest sounddrivers worked, playedfor 1.5 hours with eax on, oh so beatiful no locks, and sounds great, thanks.

Its your EVGA card. You need the BIOS update. eVGA has admitted to shipping out cards with a faulty BIOS. Go to their site, register your card, and download the new BIOS under Support/Drivers/Bios. You need to extract the file onto a floppy and then boot off of it. I could not run any 3D apps until I did this. Everything has been golden since. Then your good man.
