I just built a new PC. Core2 duo E6700, Asus P5B delux, 2-74G WD RAptor HDD, 4Gb of Corsair memory, Corsair 620W PSU and Vista 64bit business. The OS hangs from time to time. Its weird because the HD starts to get an excessive amount of activity and then it hangs is not responding. I usually just try a Ctr+Alt+Del and there is nothing that is "not responding" and then when I cancel to get out of task manager, it goes back to norm. I am not sure if this is a hardware issue or Vista??? I tried all the usuals, re-seat the memory and CPU. All the hardware and memory looks fine in the MB bios??? Not sure where to go from here. It can run just nice and fast for a while and then hang.

I was just on the phone with Asus. They said I should have set my 2 SATA HDD's as IDE. I set them up as AHCI and installed the ICH8R driver on vista install. They think that might be the problem. What is the correct way. IN the bios when you configure SATA you have 3 options, IDE, RAID or AHCI. I chose AHCI.

Well I ran the memory test as you said and seven times through no errors. I am going to reinstall vista using IDE instead of AHCI

Good luck, don't forget to tell us what it was if it is solved, we can solve the problem for others experiencing the same troubles.

I reconfig'd the Bios to cinfigure SATA HDD's as IDE instead of AHCI and reloaded windows Vista 64 and all is fine after 2 days. I also loaded Vista with 2g of ram and did all the updates and then added the other 2g of ram. I read on here somewhere that some people had problems with 4 and resolved it by loading with only two.
But all seems fine now.
Thanks for the help.
