ok, i've gotten my computer set up and everything - winxp, blah blah.....
shut it off, left it there; went to work (we had a thunderstorm, but more on that later)
come home, trying to boot up computer....power not responding
I open it up and the mobo led power is not on, yet the keyboard connected to PS2 has green lights on...
any thing sounds fishy...tried replugging in all the power stuff, to no avail

thunderstorm....i left my laptop on, still works...phone charger still alive as well - might be death of PSU? but how does my keyboard light stay on then if there is no power going to mobo

thanks in advance,
btw i'm really freaked out

I also would suspect the power supply.
Unplug the supply from the motherboard and take a paperclip rebend it into a U shape and short the green lead to the black lead next to it and see if the supply truns on, dont leave it on for very long just long enough to see if the ps supply fan turns on, if it dont turn on the supply is bad. The leads can be found on the clip side of the plug toward the middle.

thats pretty odd seeing as how your computer was turned off during the thunderstorm. my guess would be the power supply as well.. good luck

well, i stuck my psu into my buddies computer (bout the same setup)....and nothing happens

the technique bleep described caused a LED fan to light up for a fraction of a second, then dies......so i'm guessing the psu is bleeping Fed....

well i'm hoping that this is within the 30 days that tigerdirect will return stuff.....i mean its a 80 dollar combo (chieftec dragon full tower + 'ultra' 580W psu)

its really not a cheap psu either

go figure

Not really an expensive one either...80 for the whole thing is rather cheap I think. A "real" good PSU alone will cost more than that. See if you can return it though.
