Help, new computer building

Hi I recently bought a computer off NCIX i've built about 4 computer before so i'm not a COMPLETE newb.

But this one I bought won't boot up with 400DDR ram

My mother board is:
SOLTEK 75FRN2-L NFORCE2 SOCKETA DUAL DDR AGP8X 5PCI ATA133 SOUND LAN MOTHERBOARD

CPU:
AMD SEMPRON 2500+ PROCESSOR 1.75GHZ SOCKETA 256K 333FSB RETAIL BOX 3YR MFR WARRANTY

RAM:
SAMSUNG 512MB PC3200 DDR400 184PIN OEM

When i start the system nothing happens, it just beeps 2 short beeps and then freezes.

I took some 256 333DDR ram out of my other computer and put it in and it runs fine. I don't know if i'm doing somthing wrong??? Please help? I realize it's possible that the 400DDR ram could be BAD RAM but i'm not sure. Thanks

Hello & welcome to the forums... I guess I am the welcome wagon today...

- I'd check Soltek's site to make sure I had the latest BIOS... perhaps your board has issues with the type of ram you are attempting to install...
- also google for beep codes for your motherboard... those 2 beeps definitely mean something. if not check the manual and see if they have a chart describing the beep codes... I'd be willing to bet it's ram, obviously you have done the swap and pretty much introduced it as the only x factor.

update BIOS and see if the problem persists. g/l

Had similar problem w/Sempron combo from Outpost/Fry's for my wife's GF. Had 512 MB PC3200, wouldn't POST. Tried PC2700 out of my old comp, it works great.

Welcome to the Forums

1) you don't want your RAM running out-of-sync with the CPU in the first place, unless you like having a slow computer. If the CPU's at 333, the RAM should be at 333. Raising the memory bus to 400 while leaving the CPU at 333 will cost you performance.

2) what memory voltage are you running it at? DDR400 is often designed for more voltage than the mobos are giving when they're on AUTO.

3) how good is your PSU? Unstable power from the PSU can mean unstable power to the memory, doesn't help matters

2 Beeps usually indicates a problem with the VIDEO card
(either not seated properly, incorrectly set\identifed in the BIOS, or a problem with the card itself)

You may want to try clearing the CMOS (remember to disconnect the POWER).
