I just finished my latest build. I am using Office 2010. I use outlook and excel. I loaded a fresh install of win7, upgraded from XP. I have not been able to find the files for my old mail and spreadsheets to move over to the new install. Can someone tell me how I can do this so when I open outlook or Excel all my saved files and old mail is where it should be. Thanks.

usually in xp outlook mail is in

c: \documents and settings\%username%\local data\microsoft\outlook\something.pst

you want to find the pst file and point your outlook account at it, control panel > mail > profiles > data files or something like that. off the top of my head and all...

as for your old spreadsheets, no clue. you cant really upgrade from xp, i thought...so you may have no nothing to restore, pretty sure windows 7 just blows away the old install but someone can correct me if im wrong, ive never actually bothered to even try an xp > 7 upgrade. i thin you can do xp > vista > 7 but i could be mistaken on that, too

sorry, I didnt mean to say I upgraded. I bought an OEM win7 and installed it on my new SSD. I also installed office 2010 on the SSD. I am trying to get the old mail files from the old drive to connect with the new install. I'll look at where you pointed me.
Thanks

What Sauron said is exactly what you have to do. Mail files are stored in a pst and you have to tell Outlook to look at the PST to get your mail.

Oh boy, now I can not send or recieve. I must have done something bad when I moved the .PST file.

Task " I blanked out my email from here" - Receiving' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
Task " I blanked it out from here too" - Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'

Does anyone know what I may have done?

OK so I removed the pst file that has all my mail from my old install and put the one that was originaly created when I installed office back in. I can now send and recieve.

So why wont it work with the old .pst file from my previous install?

I found it. I have been able to get my appointments, but still not my mail. I may have moved it around so much trying to do it manually I may have screwed it up. Thanks, I'll keep working it. At least I am getting a little closer. lol
