Ok the server runs WinXP pro and the 2 clients on runs XP pro and one runs XP home. The server has 3 NIC installed and the second NIC works fine with the client computer but when i tried to install the third NIC and hook up the laptop, the lappy does not have internet connection or can access the network. The first NIC on the server connects to a cable modem and i have Internet Connection SHaring on. Any ideas how to get the third NIC working?

I'm not sure if ICS will share the internet connection with more than one other NIC in the system. For your setup, you'd probably be better off getting a hub or switch to hook the 2nd NIC in your XP system up to, and then hook your client systems into the hub/switch. It'll be much easier to set up this way.

Yeah ICS will only work on the basis of 1 Internet Connection - shared on 1 NIC.

I would never really recommend installing more than 2 NIC's in a server unless there was a particular application/reason for this...like JW310 said, pick yourself up a hub/switch....4,5 or 8 port ones are really cheap noawadays even for a Full Duplex 10/100 NWAY Switch!...Less than £20 for a 5 port over here in the UK.

If you're using Windows XP, or Server 2003, then you can take the two LAN connections, and Bridge them. That will make the two connections appear as one in Windows, and you can assign one IP address to them. That also means that PC1 can talk to PC2, via the server.

You can then enable ICS on the internet connection, and it will use the Network Bridge :)

I use this on 2003 Server to hook up my laptop via a USB wireless adapter to the rest of my wired LAN, and so it can get on the internet.

It's not the best way, but it will work :)
