I don't know anything about networking but tommorow I'll be able to setup my dsl connection and want to know what I should get. I didn't get a NIC with the package so I know I'll want to get one of those.

The thing is I want to be able to share my connection from my desktop to my laptop and maybe even share the love with my parents upstairs. Please let me know what equipment I need to be able to do this withoud hurting my pockets. All help is really appreciated.🙂

I just did some research to set up a friend for internet so I will share my research.

First you need the router. My favorite and one of the best routers at a good price is here linky

Next some laptops have the ethernet connection built in; if not jump on this; as long as you have the correct Operating system link

Also if you dont have NIC cards in your computer or your parents computer look around you can always find deals on these. I would not pay more than $10 for one NIC.

The linksys has step by step simple instructions to set up, it is very easy.

Just measure hoe much cat 5 cable you need from your desktop to your parents. If you buy the router at dell using the 15% off through small business networks throw in the cat 5 cable also. You might want to throw in the D-link NIC, if you need them, they have them there for about $10 a pop.

Good luck.
