HELP NEEDED! WTF is wrong with this dvd

I borrowed Patriot Games from a friend, I stick it into my DVD drive in my computer, the opening stuff comes on but then it stops, it starts making a noise like its not running smooth, and the light starts blinking like mad. The program just shuts off. It's not a hardware or software problem, all my dvd's play just fine. There are no noticeable scratches or smudges, I musta cleaned it 1000 times. What I'm worried is that when I return it, he'll think I screwed up the disc.
 
The Way of the Gun Does that in my PC. It playes half way through and tanks. A stand alone player works fine.
