I am trying to configure a laptop to dual boot SuSE Linux enterprise desktop and XP. Everything works fine until I boot into XP. When I shut down and restart after logging into XP grub hangs at "grub loading please wait" forever. I can then use a handy little boot CD called SuperGrub disk and repair it so I once again can boot up either Linux or XP and I can reboot Linux all day with no problem but as soon as I boot up XP when I shut down the problem comes back. I have to assume that XP is somehow messing up the MBR to be causing this but cannot seem to find any solutions.

Hmm, afaik XP doesn't mess with the MBR after its installation unless you manually use some tools to change that (but that can't be done while running windows). Does grub throw you back an error code or any other message? Btw, the SuSE install disk has a tool on it that repairs the boot loader too.

Yeah I tried that one late yesterday afternoon and really hosed everything up. I'm going to start over this morning by using fixmbr to get the XP booting normally again and then reinstalling SLED. This time I will back up all the grub related files and start digging through the grub docs to see if I can figure this out.
