Help needed with beard

I've been growing a beard for the past 3-4 months and it has some pretty good length on it, I'd say between 1-2 inches worth of facial hair. This is something I usually do for the winter as I like to hike/ski and spend time outdoors when its cold.

The issue is that my beard is very coarse and wiry and has come to resemble a huge patch of armpit/pubic hair on my face, It is never knotted as I brush it daily. I also use special beard shampoo & conditioner and as well as beard oil and wax but it doesnt look as good as it should.

Specifically I want it straighter and less monster looking. I like the idea of a beard in the winter but wish it didnt look so curly and pubic hair-ish. Its warm and keeps the ice/snow off my face so it is very useful. I am contemplating the use of a hair straightener or some sort of chemical. I've seen some guys who have straight flowing beards that don't look wiry and wonder if it grows naturally that way or if they are doing somethign to their beards. What do you guys think? Anybody with beard advice here?

I think that's just the way it is. Mines looks like a clump of spider legs :^D

I don't worry about it. If you really want it straight, you might be able to use a relaxer or something like black people use, but I don't think it's that good for your hair, and a lot of work for a seasonal thing. I'd just learn to accept it, and work with what you've got.

If it's so squiggly and random that it seems unkempt, it's too long. Some people can rock a long beard like a nice big symmetrical chin-afro, some can't.

I can't. I keep it in the .5-1" region.

Yeah good point on the chemicals. I dont want to damage the hair or make it look worse. Im leaning towards the hair straightener as women use it all the time to straighten their hair and doesnt seem like that much work. I see my fiance use it all the time and wondering if it would work on far coarser beard hair.

I'd like it straighter for neatness reasons. I work with people, sometimes see customers so I think a neater beard would help me at work. My fiance too has started to nag me about it and looking good in front of her, especially if a better beard is something feasible and possible, then why not?

Holy crap, people actually pay that much for special beard shampoo?

Yea, I saw that. The stuff's also sweetened. I wonder why that is?

If you want to persist, I'd try using olive oil, extra virgin of course, cause who doesn't need extra virgins?

That's genetic. No amount of $120 a bottle snake oil is going to change your pube beard into corn silk.

I understand genetics. The same principle applies to women temporarily straightening, coloring, curling etc... to their hair. Wondering if anyone in ATOT does what I am asking in this thread to their beard

I can never grow a beard. once it starts to get longer than stubble it itches like crazy. oh, and it like jabs me and seemingly gets caught on stuff and I must be pulling hair out because it hurts like hell, lol.

Your beard is probably just not long enough for that yet. Eventually the weight of the beard will pull it straighter and cause it to move uniformly down. It also helps to brush it with a fine boar hair brush.

There are many beard oils out there. But trust me, I've had a beard for many years and nothing will change the way it looks. You can keep the wild hair in check but if it's curly you can't change that. You need to style your beard according to the hair

There's a bunch of misinformation in this thread. Almost all beard hair is curly until it has enough weight to it. You need to take care of it - this includes washing it and then applying oil. You can find oils on Amazon for about $10-12, or you can make your own - that's what I do. If you find that it's still unruly, you can get a beard balm or beard wax. On Sunday after I get a trim, I'll post a pic with it waxed up.
