i have a celeron 850 mounted on a mercury 815eTFSX(815ep) mobo.the problem is that the bios shows me options only between 100 and 115 for overclocking making it possible for me to only touch 978 Mhz.
is there any other way that i can overclock it to reach atleast a gig? the manual fails to show any jumper concerned with FSB selection

I have a feeling that your mobo wont support anything over 115 FSB. I had a gigabyte board that was the same way.

i too had had the same doubt...but one of friends had an 810ebased mobo that has cel733 on it. it doesn't show anything over 83 mhz fsb. moreover, my mobo's manual claims that it supports cpus from 66 to 133 mhz fsb...see my mobo here

It's a bios limitation. If the board senses a 133fsb processor, then it runs it at 133, otherwise the default options you see are what you get.

I think Powerleap makes a socket to socket adapter that allows fsb and voltage manipulation, might want to chase it down....

Do a search and find what pins on the CPU to yank. ;)

You could do it easier by consorting the manual for the motherboard. The difference between 100fsb and 133fsb from 66fsb is usually as simple as shorting out a pair of three pins. You need to change a jumper to get the different 66-83, 90-133, and 133-200 fsb options supplied by mobo makers.

i even searched the board manally for any jumpers concerned with fsb...none were there
isnt there any utility that can help me overclock the cpu?

The motherboard probably uses the pinout of the CPU then. This means you'd have to pull pins off the CPU to get the overclock you want.
