help needed on a crashed HD

I have a friend that's PC with XP crashed and will not boot up for anything. I tried everything.

So I took the HD out and put it in my PC as a slave and want to save the pictures on it before I reinstall XP on it:

But when I try to access the folder in Documents I get this error ( You dont currently have permission to access this folder )

I tried to access the folder and its empty?? any ideas??

Any help is appreciated..
 
What version of Windows are you running?

You may want to run a Windows "CHKDSK /R" on it since you have it mounted in your PC. It may be able to recover it enough where you can at least get to the data.
