help needed on a crashed HD

I have a friend that's PC with XP crashed and will not boot up for anything. I tried everything.

So I took the HD out and put it in my PC as a slave and want to save the pictures on it before I reinstall XP on it:

But when I try to access the folder in Documents I get this error ( You dont currently have permission to access this folder )

I tried to access the folder and its empty?? any ideas??

What version of Windows are you running?

You may want to run a Windows "CHKDSK /R" on it since you have it mounted in your PC. It may be able to recover it enough where you can at least get to the data.

If you are running XP on your machine you can take ownership of his documents. pictures etc. Here is the link to do that : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

The files of your friends hard disk are locked. You have to change the permissions.
