Hey guys,

need some help here, as I am not familiar with the IMac

can anyone give me a detailed step on how to format a G4 and do a fresh install for the Mac OS??
thanks.

its that easy?
but I did that,
and all the current files were still there,

I mean, its not doing a clean install I think,
more like upgrading to the newer version or overlap in otherwords

I thought it was that easy. Everytime I ran the disk initialization tool it warned me I was about to lose all of my data.

it's probably been 2-3 years now since I've done this but that is the same process I remember. Boot off the CD, specify that you want to reinitialize it (and loose all the data) than proceed with the install.

I am in no way a Mac Expert, but which OS are you installing? For OS X (Panther), you can go to the Disk Utility program. Its under the file menu I think. From there you can partition and format your harddrive. Once that is done, close the disk utility and return to the installation screen.

If I remember correctly, setup will also prompt you for which type of installation you want to do. You can choose an upgrade with current settings, a fresh install with a backup of your old os, or a complete format/reinstall.
