Hey..I was told to come here for advise or what type of laptops are good. My old compac home PC crashed and I now want a laptop due to travel, etc.

All I know is I have heard DELLS are bad..ACER's & HP's are good.

Where to buy? Is ebay safe?
HELP!!!

i'd highly recomment an ibm thinkpad from my experience, but they're normally a little more expensive than the other brands. dells are the cheapest but I hear their cust service sucks

I have gotten all my IBM thinkpads, which I recommend, off ebay. Check the sellers feedback rating before you bid on an item.

I own a dell and no problems except i had a bad wifi card. Logged on to dells tech chat and had a new card fed exed to me in 2 days. I also helped a friend out with a dell lappy and the tech service was great.

I've owned 4 Dell laptops and have never had a problem either.

Currently have a 700m and recently ordered an XPS M140.

True, Acer and IBM are really good, but I would like to add that Toshibas (In my experience), are the best that I have had the opportunity to own. (I've yet to own an IBM or an Acer).
Toshibas just seem to me to be a little more solidly built than Dell, Compaq, or the HPs I have owned.
And for some reason, the Toshibas I have had have never "locked up" or crashed as the others seem to on a regular basis.

Not knocking any laptops, just my $.02

ibm, powerbook, dell

dont just assume dell is bad cause someone told you that. its probably the best deal for a decent laptop.

I own a Dell inspiron 6000. I totally ditched my desktop and haven't looked back since.
I haven't had any problems with my Dell.
