what does that mean? Was it an error from my end or the server?

Suggestions:

Might help:
1) Trying putting 3-4 commas after the number your dialing so that your modem doesn't try to handshake right away.
2) You could try disabling hardware data compression and have your flow control set to CTS/RTS rather than XON/XOFF.

Will probably help more:
3) Get a better modem. I haven't seen a winmodem yet that I like.

yes, i have tried that, and it is not a winmodem, its a internal pci hardware modem.
