I am looking to build a system. My old system died about a year ago, and I have not been on top of developments in the PC world now for even longer...and obviously so much has chenged. I want a really good performing machine that will last awhile before I need to get another (I don't want a machine tottering on obsolesence :) I don't necessarily want the top of the line...for the amount of time they stay there it isn't worth the price...

I was thinking of getting an AMD 1.2 GHZ chip. I have a slew of questions though.

Does this chip use the same memory as the Pentium 4 does? Do I have a choice in the type of RAM I get? What is the best type of RAM to get.

That goes for all other components:

Any advice on Hard Drives (Ultra-ATA I assume is still the fastest IDE), Graphic Cards, Sound Cards (I'm thinking SBLive for the latter)?

Basically, I am looking to do some gaming and Photo Editing, so I would like a system that could handle those things well. (I figure if it handles those well, it will handle simple word processing, etc just fine.)

Any help would be INCREDIBLY appreciated.
