A friend of mine has been harboring my cat for a few months, and she has to move to a non-cat friendly apartment. However, I am unable to take him back because my parents have a 135lb dog in the house (family problems prevent me from moving to my own place). She'll be moving in two weeks so I need to find a new home for him NOW.

Name: Pancake
Age: 2 3/4 years (Birthday = 10/31/2000)
Breed: Housecat. Orange Tabby.
Disposition: Incredibly sweet, affectionate, friendly. "Lazy lap cat." Even people who normally hate cats love him.
Habitat: Indoors or outdoors
Declawed: No
Fixed: Yes

If you or someone you know wants the BEST CAT EVER, please let me know ASAP. He desperately needs a home. If you are in Southern California I can arrange for you to see him. Also, I will be trekking up to Napa Valley on the weekend of August 8th, so even if you're up in NorCal I can deliver him there.

Please no stupid jokes about Chinese Restaurants, feeding him to the dog, or anything else inane. I really need help getting him relocated. Thanks.

**EDIT**

Found Pancake a home last night. Thanks for all your help!

Why does your friend HAVE to move into a non-cat friendly apartment? I wouldn't give up my cats for a palace....

I don't think you understand just how hard it is to locate housing, especially university-proximate housing in Los Angeles. Finding such an apartment that ALSO accepts cats is damn near impossible.

That's the funniest thing I've seen all week.

What about clever jokes about Chinese Restaurants... would these be acceptable?

Hmm... I think I do understand and I would (and have) fight to find a place that would accept a cat. I can't live without 'em. OTOH, my beef is not with your friend, but with those evil landlords. :|
You ever go down to the shelters and check out the reasons why people gave their pet away? The number one reason is always "moving." Pisses me off to no end.

Anyway, my rant is over. I sincerely hope you find a good home for that cat. Looks adorable.

Hey, watch what you say. I'm a landlord.

You'd be surprised at the sheer COST of repairing damage done by cats - recarpeting, re-flooring (cat urine = IMPOSSIBLE to remove), cleaning, etc etc etc. That being said, we accept cats in a few of our units but not all (i.e. smaller ones.) The thing is, it's the cat OWNERS who make this happen. There are people who are adamantly professing their diligence at making their pets behave but let them piss and crap everywhere, don't clean up, etc.

So insist on appropriate pet deposits. Those who really love their pets will pay them (and are the ones who I think would be most likely to keep good care of their pets). Problem solved.

Anyway, someone take this cat!! :)

If I weren't in dire need of money, I would be more than happy to take care of your cat until you can have him back. :) I have a cat of my own here who is incredibly bored during the day and it's hard enough as it is keeping him fed, etc.

Not usually unless the dog has been raised with cats present. I've raised both cats and dogs, but I've never seen a dog that was cat-friendly unless they were raised with one or more. I'm sure there are some breeds out there that are naturally cat-friendly regardless, but I've never seen one.

We have had several dogs that we got from the pound that had never been around a cat one being a 185lb male great dane. He is scaired to death of the 2 female siamese cats. One of them alone can keep him from coming into a room just by giving him the look.

Is the dog overly aggressive? We have always had cats and dogs living together in our house and after an initial adjustment period they co-exist just fine. That is a beautiful cat, if we didn't already have a house full I would have you send him to us.

Exactly. A lot of places anywhere you go won't take cats. My wife and I were very lucky to find a great place that does take cats (albeit with a $500 pet deposit, in addition to the $700 deposit for the apartment itself).

Amnesiac: Wish I could help you out, but don't have room for another kitty and I'm in San Diego, besides. :(

I was in the same boat for a little while (you might have seen my thread about that) but a loophole in our lease allowed us to keep our 3rd cat for now. Good luck finding a home for the kitty!
