Help - Need Help from Tax ppl

I have an apt in NH and do some travelling as I am a consultant. My company out of the blue changed my address in their system to Philadelphia and deducted $600 extra in state and local taxes. How do I get it back? So, my company by mistake changed my address and deducted the money..how do I get it back...from who ?

Need more info here. Was this from last year? If so, your company needs to send you a corrected W2 and you have to file an amended tax return to get your money back. If this just happened recently, your company needs to correct the error and refund your money.

It just happened this month. I mean period ending 6/30/01.
So you mean the money's still with my company and not with the state/locality ...whatever.
For Info's sake..how difficult is it to get back from state/locality. Asking - 'cos I believe my company is pretty stubborn and this thing will be last on the to do list.

Doesn't matter. It's their mistake, they have to correct it. Doubtful the money has gone anywhere yet - employers only have to file that stuff quarterly I believe.

Hmm - I suppose they are gonna argue that you had been to Philly fow a few days but that way I have to file 12 tax returns each year

The address of your residence is all that matters regardless of where you travel to, etc. Now if you actually were living in Philly but giving them a different address (friend, relative, etc.) where you don't actually reside and they found out, well that's another matter.

I don't see what the problem is here. If they made a mistake, they have to fix it. If you got caught at something, well... 😉

Umm..no..I do live in Philly at company provided acco for a month or so sometimes and go back..like that...
Even the stupid company has an address in NJ to avoid paying Philly local tax.
