Help - Need DVD decoder for Win 2K

I got a new computer a few months back - Compaq Presario system

It came with Win ME which I hated but did not want to change as it had 1 year warranty/support and I highly suspect if have a problem and had changed the OS they will tell you you have voided things.

Anyway.....After putting up up with freezes, lockups and crashes for months I finally became so pi$$ed at the weekend I wiped it and installed Win 2K....what a difference....it is actaully a joy to use now.

Anyway.....Everything now works after a bit of driver updating except my DVD player. It says that I do not have a DVD decoder loaded for Win 2K. I checked the Compaq website and they do not seem to have one for download - just a DVD player. I called up tech support and as suspected, teh guy said we do not support Win 2K.

Anyone have any advice?

You need a software such as PowerDVD. The DVDPlayer bundled with win2k needs a decoder (which means it's useless). I'm using PowerDVD on my 5bw220 with win2k and it works fines.

It shows a a Compaq drive in system info, can't remember the model # - I am not at home

I am assuming POwerDVD is not Freeware?
How much does it cost?

I got the powerDVD bundled with my DVD drive. You can find it for about $10.
