HELP! Need Car Audio Advice!!!!

I want to actually put a little money into my car and put in a *budget* audio system.

All thats in there now is the factory speakers and radio...

I listen to rock/heavy metal, and I called Crutchfield for advice.

They recommended:

replacing my factory speakers with
2 sets of Polk EX602a's at $100 a pair = $200

Cd player: Pioneer DEH110 at $150

For subs, they recommended the Jenson KS2400BP at $160

and finally, for the amp... Profile 400SX at $80


Anyone have any other suggestions? I don't really trust Crutchfield... can I do better for that price range? ANY comments/advice appreciated. Thanks

your speaker to amp ratio seems way off. If you don't have enough juice to drive your speakers, you'll never truly appreciate the sound you get.

Can you be a little more specific? How powerful of an amp do I need?

They have the right idea, but I would get different speakers and a different amp.

Any Pioneer HU would be a good choice, they are all quality units.

For speakers, look into the 2000 Model Infinity Reference speakers. They can be found for $70/pr (100 at Cruthfield) and beat anything in their price range. They are also pretty efficent, so you could get by with your HU for power.


As for a subwoofer, stay away from Jenson and Profile at all costs. If you really want a subwoofer though, you can get an AWESOME deal on a complete setup here: http://www.soundhabit.com/Store/product/view.cfm?ProductID=1559

Heres a better system for bout the same price:

Infinity Reference 6.5's $70 a pair
Pioneer DEH3110 $180
Amp MTX 752 $135

Total about $520

Whatever you do...don't get those Jensens or that Profile...that Profile is not enough power. Gimme an email if ya need any help.

I have the Polk speakers crutchfield recommended. Im not any hardcore audiophile, but I think they sound pretty good w/ 50W RMS running through them from my Infinity amp.

Profile stuff is complete junk. I had a 4x50 amp that I got from Crutchfield a couple years ago, and returned it after about a week in my car. I really doubt that it put out 50W RMS. Put in a Hifonics amp that I picked up at Best Buy, and while a little better, I still didn't like it. Had the protection policy on it, good thing I did because I blew that sucker 3 times before trading it in on a Clarion 4x40. The Clarion blows both of them away hands down.

You can probably get as good of a deal locally on prices, plus you'll get the support of the shop you bought it from.

Crutchfield sells most of their products near MSRP.

Do you have a Good Guys, or Best Buy, or Al and Eds around there?

IBhacknU yes there is a Best Buy close by... but I called them and their cheapest boxed sub was like $300 so I just hung up.

The thing is that I don't know what I am doing as far as installation, and Crutchfield assured me that they would give me &quot;everything I need&quot;... thats why I haven't even looked at prices on E-bay and those kind of places

The Best Advice Anyone Can Give YOU

Go listen to speakers, amps, subs, and play with decks at a store near you, and buy what YOU think sounds good. Don't rely on others to tell you what's good and bad, as all will be very opinionated responses. I would tell you what I think, but it's up to you.

Everything you need is...umm...a 7 dollar wire harness. Oh yeah and wires for the amp...and I doubt that they'll be giving that away. Oh yeah with Crutchfield you also get instructions on how to take apart your dash and stuff, which is pretty helpful.

Thanks for the help, I have one final question. My friend might be able to get me an incredible deal on the KD-LX30 (it would be the same price as the Pioneer DEH1100 ($150)) I assume I would go with this?

Yep..the JVC...i don't really like JVC as a whole..but compared to the low end Pioneer...definately the JVC.
