I would like 30+ hours, but I would be happier with closer to 50 hours of playback.

I don't need a fancy screen, as this will be purely for music.

I would like a decent amount of storage (8gb at least).

Of course, decent sound quality as well...

Anyone recommend a certain device?

Thank you.

Cowon D2s are nice - but! They have a built in battery that does have a life. For unlimited battery life get one with user replaceable batteries - examples! Then your battery life is only limited by the size of your pockets.

yeah, but there is no space on those. 2GB for the largest.

Good idea, but as mentioned there aren't very many good standard battery mp3 players.

Just to add to why I think the D2 is the best choice: offers a ton of features, with fantastic battery life, and one of the highest rated sound qualities of any flash player. They go up to 16gb internal, and have an SDHC slot that supports up to 32gig cards. 16gig cards are fairly cheap, and the D2 isn't too expensive to begin with (comparatively).

Just a few cons: The touch screen is kind of wonky, as it's a resistive screen and not a nice responsive capacitive screen like the iphones and other newer devices. The UI isn't fantastic either. It takes a little while to get used to everything as it's just not as intuitive as most would like. Neither are deal breakers though.
