You probably won't find such a cable; VGA plugs are usually female, so any VGA->DVI cable would be male->male. However, you can just slap a gender changer on the VGA end of such a cable to get a VGA female<->DVI male cable.

DVI-D? Isn't that the form of DVI that's digital only, and doesn't have an analog connection to pass on to a VGA port?

Ah, good point. You can't go from a digital DVI output to an analog VGA input (or vice versa) without a transcoder; no adapter cable is gonna help you there.

ahhh, good point..no wonder i couldn't find it

now the only question is, how can i connect the two ends using mor than one cable or some sort of transcoder?

Try the Provantage website for DVI adapters--about $11 plus shipping--DVIm/VGAf and DVIf/VGAm.
ConnectXpress and CablesToGo also have adapters, but there's a minimum purchase amount.
