So yeah one of my coworker is lending me his new Canon XTi camera w/ just a basic kit lens. I plan to use it at this JDM carshow in San Francisco this Sunday.

But I dont really know how to use the XTi. So can some one point me to some quick start guide or camera settings to take good pictures of indoor(garage) environment? maybe some outdoor ones too.

Ideally i want to take pics like the ones found here (pics from previous shows.)

thanks!

Having an idea of what angles you want to take pictures of is the hardest part. The quickest way would be to get a book like this and read through it carefully. Or you could read the Canon owner's manual here. The most critical part is to just start taking pictures. Keep in mind that the build in flash is rather weak and will only go a few feet in a dark room. You can leave the camera on Auto and get decent pictures, but that doesn't work well in low light. The Av (Aperature priority) is a greata setting to keep it on, you chose the aperature, and the camera will set the exposure length for proper exposure.

Overall just start to play around with it and see what you can do with it. If you have never used a SLR or manual features before its a big step up.

outdoor sunny / low iso lowest aperture number (kit lens is 3.5) indoor / dark use the iso 400 or 800 with the 3.5 aperture. That should get you the pics you need.
