Help my plan my next upgrade

I current run the computer in my signature, with the core being 2GB of ram, X2 4200+ and a 7800GT.

I have an SLI mobo and a 485W Enermax top of the line PS.

I play two games currently, Warcraft III and Battlefield 2142. I am slightly disappointed with the performance of BF2142.

I play at 1600x1050.

I am looking forward to Quake Wars, Crysis (for sure) and UT 2007.

Money is not a huge issue, but I like buying *smart* -- I could afford an 8800GTX the day it comes out, but I don't "need" it.

I wonder if I should just get another 7800GT and drop it in.... ? But isn't DX10 worth it for the upcoming games?

Am I cpu limited in a big way yet?

What are the estimates on when new Vid cards are coming?

Any word on how the 8800gtx will do with Crysis? I don't have a lot of time these days, and I would rather avoid the step up thing...

Apparently, Crysis can run "smoothly" (no exact FPS) at high settings (sorry, don't know what resolution exactly - higher that 1280x1024 I'm guessing) with a "dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and one 8800GTX. I'm sorry I read it somewhere a while ago...it was a test system demoing Crysis. Sorry I don't have a link for now...you'll just have to trust my word. Also, Crysis I think will be optimized very well but you never really know until it releases.

About the upgrade...if I were in your shoes right now, I would probably get an 8800GTX, 4GB of RAM, and leave your processor alone. It should be fine. I don't think another 7800GT would be smart buying because a while down the road you'll have to buy ANOTHER card. In the end it's just more money. I don't know if your PSU can handle a 8800GTX though, that's the only problem, really.

I'm not sure going to 4GB of DDR1 ram is a good idea right now...

If you need an upgrade already, then what do I need? 🙁

BTW, I fourth that. 2GB is more than enough unless you're using Vista or run many RAM intensive applications.

Maybe you could get an 8800GTS 640MB so there's a smaller bottleneck by your CPU. Then like what themisfit610 said, just step it up within the 3 months.
