Tell them to give the 10K to a bum on the street. It's faster and less painful. At least in the end, they'll have given their money to someone who needs it.

MLM's suck.

There is only so much you can do... Its their money, they can do whatever they want with it.
Maybe when they are in the hole for 10K, they will start to listen to you and realize what is means for "friends to guarantee" money.

Live and learn.

Make up your own MLM scheme.. convince your parents to invest the money in your MLM scheme instead. Then steal their money. They would've lost it anyway, so why not just do them and yourself a favor and keep it in the family.

MLM are legal in the US, most people confuse them with pyramid schemes which are illegal. MLM are actually used by big companies,
example, mary kay cosmetics, amway, herbalife. Thise companies have products they sell.

most pyramid schemes invole money changing hands with nothign to show for it and the guy at the top is the only one to get rich.

Don't forget Cyberrebate. Another pyramid scheme... Although pyramid schemes can be profitable if you know
how far the scheme has been going on for. Just make sure you're not stuck holding the bag at the end...

i almost worked for a pyramid scheme. that was literally the business model. completly legal too. try looking up primerica. its a part of citigroup, sells term life insurance. how you make the big money is not by selling life insurance but by training other people to sell life insurance. you get paid for that, you get a cut of theirs, and i think you get a cut of their trainee's revenues. okay, its not a pyramid scheme in the regular sense, but it is a pyramid and you can't make big bucks if you get in near the saturation point.

Most pyramid schemes these days hide under the MLM umbrela by selling things such as poster, stamp, t-shirt, hats, etc...

An ex-gf of mine also was at the end of our relationship. I warn her when she told me she had made some investment in a scheme that sell poster. She was angry with me that I didn't trust her judgment & I was a poor partner that don't know how to support her on her decision.

The pyramid schemes often uses people pride & ignorance as a weapon against them.

ive experienced this first hand with my mothing investing about 4k into a mlm scheme. she never made anything back, she lost a lot of time and money.

about a year or two ago my friend invited me to one of these stupid meetings. it was so rediculous. you can see right through the sales men, well i could. anyways, i told my friend dont do it. he kinda hesitated with my advice

So do most mlm schemes. Most MLM is a cheap cover to turn an illegal pyramid scheme into something with a legal name.

Stay out of your parents business. Unless they ask for your input, it is none of your concern. You have no reason to believe they are being taken by any scam. They are adults and are free to make their own choices. Unless they are spending your money, you should sit quitely and mind your own business.

Pretty pathetic you air your laundry here. MLM is legal. If your family believes they can double their investment, then let them try.

when you are adult and making your own living, then you can tend to your own business. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate one of your children going on the internet and telling the world about your personal financial dealings, right?

Right!

Stupid MLM Variable Universal Life salesman posed as a professional financial adviser tried to sucker me into buying his life insurance+retirement investment for ~$350/month. And damn, those numbers he ran through his laptop looked amazing. At age 50 I will be worth at least $10M!

Send your parents HERE!

If it can bring down entire countries then it won't be very hard to deplete your Parents cash pile, will it.

If they can't see that then they deserve to be fleeced, and i suggest that you get there first before this 'friend'.

Yeah, totally agree. I always have to look out for my parents too. They are not as educated in these types of "things" and English is their second language so sometimes it's easy for them to get tricked. For example, when my mom first started using e-mail she would always get those "you are a winner" e-mails and think that she had actuallly won something?? hehe, i would always have to explain it's "spam" which is a new term she's never heard of. but anyways, parents should listen to their kids sometimes. they might know more than you !

good mlm's aren't scams or illegal, like the ones I posted above, but there are bad ones out there, you need to be wary, but not completely closed minded.
IN this case though after reading those links I smell something rotten

I dont get these MLM schemes. How can people actually make money by doing this (I mean, what is the money going towards)? What is the logic behind, you put in $1000 and you get $2000 back in a month?

Wow, I never expected this to show up at AT, small world indeed. Anyway, you should know real well that any company can be legit in Indonesia. They just have to cough up enough $$ to bribe the govt.official and the loan officer at the bank.
