My problem is just what the title says. Starting a week ago or so, my logitech G5 has been randomly turning off and on, sometimes when i boot up it doesnt occur at all, but sometimes it happens constantly. Another strange phenomenon is that when i turn the mouse upside down it always turns off in response.

It sounds like i need to get it replaced, but it would be awesome if anyone had any solutions, because im getting crysis in a couple of days and really don't want to play it on a crappy mouse.
Thanks.

When it stops functioning, does the optical light turn off completely, or does the mouse just stop responding temporarily? The fact that it stops working when you turn the mouse over could indicate a loose connection inside the mouse or possibly a loose/broken wire in the cable.

well, the light turns off completely, but within a second or two it comes back, it's just temporary. Its not a motherboard problem either because I've tested all of the ports with the keyboard and mouse, and it's just the mouse that stops working. Anyway i can fix the cable perhaps?

okay, this is plugged into the USB port, and not the PS2 port I assume. have you updated the software for the mouse? if you can try running it off the ps2 mouse port and see if it still dies, if it does, then you have a defective mouse, and return it or if it's past the return window rma it.

Yes USB, it either didnt come with a PS/2 adapter or its at home, I've tried installing the logitech mouse drivers, the newest ones of course, and it didnt help a bit.

I guess I'll just return/rma it, hopefully i can find something decent for cheap :D.

I just checked on newegg, where i purchased it, and its still eligible for rma, what i meant about getting one for cheap is for while im waiting for the replacement to return lol.
