I just purchased an Epox 7KVA and put a athlon 750 in it with 128 mb sdram. i put a cdrw and cdrom drive in along with the floppy. I am using a pulled ATI Rage 11C until my 64mb Rage Furry Maxx comes in the mail. The problem is that the monitor will not come on because (i am assuming) the motherboard is not sending power to it through the video card (which is AGP). I put my old 30 gig harddrive in it which was part of a system that had the video built into the motherboard. Does anyone have any advice on this subject? Any ideas on what the possible problem is? thanks

Just running for first time? Make sure that everything is properly plugged in (cpu, ram, vidcard, etc) especially the video card, give it an extra hefty push.

i am pretty sure that all the components are in, but i will check again. Would the fact that i took my hard drive out of a computer that had the video built into the MOB have anything to do with my problem since i am now trying to use an AGP video card?

I am assuming that the monitor is not receiving a signal on boot but is able to power on. Pull everything out (PCI cards, hdds, etc.) leaving only the motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card (make sure everything is plugged in all the way). Plug in power cords and the VGA cable from the video card to the monitor (check the pins to make sure they aren't bent or missing). If that works, then begin replacing the removed components one by one to find the culprit. If that doens't work, I would check to see if the motherboard is working by removing the RAM and CPU and listening for error beeps. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck.

The hard drive would not affect the POST process.

Yes.

Windows has a difficulties detecting a new configuration with new devices. It might miss some new drivers or keep old ones installed. Unless you don't mind blue screens or system crashes, you should do a clean install of Windows.

I am about to try what you suggested AC. If this doesn't work is there any way to test for a bad CPU?

Dude, I soooo doubt it's a bad cpu. Just first make sure you have all the physical settings are correct, ie jumpers, switches, etc. Use the darn manual that came with the MB. If that doesn't work, short the CMOS, boot to BIOS, and reset everything. If you still can't boot, did you make sure that the RAM is in the first bank? Voltage is right?
If anything, I think the problem would be with the video card. You did say it's a used card, right?

First in response to AC - I tried everything you said and it still did not work. When i powered up just the MOB with no CPU or RAM there was no beaping. I am noticing a red light that is on the motherboard lighting up everytime i power up. Does it matter if i try a PCI or an AGP video card?

In response to Methos1995 - I am pretty sure the jumpers are set correctly but i will check again. I don't know how to short the CMOS but will this help me get anything up on my monitor? What are the signs if it is a bad CPU? The ram was in the first bank and the voltage is correct.

Thank you both for your help. Any other ideas? The MOB came with CD full of drivers, would it do any good to connect the CD-ROM and put this disk in during boot up? Thanks again

Try using the card in another board. Maybe it was already dead when you pulled it?
